Competitive Position

The Meadowlands Convention Center would be a super-regional and national player in almost every event type. For corporate groups, the MCC would offer flexible, high-end ballroom and meeting rooms at a fraction of NYC prices, making it the economical NY/NJ option. On the convention and trade show side, competition would come from large East Coast convention centers. For consumer shows, Meadowlands would serve as a metro and regional player, able to capture overflow demand from Javits, which generally operates with a full calendar, while also recapturing latent demand that previously had no large enough venue in the market. Youth sports represent some of the highest-impact events, and there are currently no indoor locations in the area capable of hosting large-scale tournaments, making this a significant opportunity. Finally, the project would fill a clear gap in the New Jersey entertainment market for concerts, music festivals, and fan experiences.

Economic Impact

The Meadowlands Convention Center, headquarter hotel and two privately-developed hotels are expected to generate over $3.5 billion in capturable taxes over 30 years.

  • Over 30 years, net new spending is projected to create $13.4 billion in net new earnings and an annual average of over 6,000 full-time equivalent jobs. Construction of the facility is expected to support nearly 17,500 full-time construction jobs.
