The Meadowlands Convention and Visitors Bureau (MLCVB) was founded in 2003 as a division of the Meadowlands Regional Chamber, which recognized that its destination assets required a mechanism for promotion.  The MLCVB is a comprehensive destination marketing organization for the metropolitan New Jersey area. The overarching goal of the organization is to put “heads in beds” at the hotel properties within its membership. Based on economic impact studies, accommodation accounts for approximately 23% of total tourism spending in the region. Therefore, the region’s unique sports, entertainment, ecological, business and transportation assets benefit from this strategy and are promoted within the CVB’s programming.

Major milestones in the history of the organization include:

  • In August of 2005, MLCVB received a grant from the NJ Department of Commerce to establish five tourism kiosks throughout the region.
  • In November of 2005, MLCVB held the first annual mdest, a trade show for the region’s travel and tourism professionals. Today, the event is regularly attended by tourism leaders form inside and outside the region as well as state officials.
  • In June of 2007, The Department of Travel and Tourism provided an $80,000 grant for programs to promote ecotourism, a four-part film on the region and a trade show booth.
  • In March of 2008, MLCVB received its first grant from the Department of Travel and Tourism, totaling $350,000 for a two-year marketing program. MLCVB was awarded the second highest amount in the state, behind only Atlantic City.  The grant enabled MLCVB to execute its first outbound marketing campaign.
  • In October of 2008, MLCVB received accreditation from the Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI), only the second DMO in the state to do so.
  • In May of 2010, the National Football League awarded the Meadowlands Liberty Super Bowl XLVIII. MLCVB provided the housing and tourism services to the bid for the game, which will take place in 2014

The MLCVB has, additionally, become the leading voice for the region as it seeks to attract world-class events to its venues and to develop additional tourism assets.  We employ this advocacy with the goal of bringing long-term benefit to our stakeholders and the entire region
